Sergi Taboada I'm interested in the systematics, taxonomy, molecular evolution and molecular ecology of annelids, sponges and many other marine invertebrates. My research spans from phylogenetics to electron microscopy and I'm particularly interested in biological and ecological questions including speciation, adaptation and genetic connectivity

Carlos Leiva, PhD student: I'm studying the phylogeography and population genetics of two Antarctic nemerteans (Antarctonemertes valida and A. riesgoae) and an Antarctic shallow-water sponge (Dendrilla antarctica) using Next-Generation Sequencing

Jamie Maxwell, M. Sc.: I'm studying the systematics and taxonomy of annelid polynoids living in association with deep-water gorgonians.
Danai Kontou, M. Sc.: I'm studying the systematics and taxonomy of a species of annelid polychaete of the genus Haplosyllis living in association with deep-water sponges from the North Atlantic. I'm also interested in determining the gene flow patterns of specimens of this species spanning several 100's of km.
Alex Cranston, M. Sc.: I'm studying the molecular connectivity and phylogeographic patterns of deep-sea sponges from the North Atlantic spanning several 100's of km. I'm currently applying novel Next-Generation sequencing techniques to answer to these questions
